7 Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture, Director and Actress, Bette Davis stars as Leslie Crosbie who shoots a man to death and convinces everyone she is a victim … until the truth is revealed in THE LETTER. On a steamy, moonlit night, she repeatedly shoots Geoffrey Hammond. Leslie claims she was defending herself and her honor from a drunken Hammond, a story accepted by her husband, Robert, and her attorney. Even as Hammond’s widow presents a letter proving adultery, Robert forgives Leslie and pays the blackmail. One way or another, however, a woman as shamelessly evil as Leslie will receive justice in this film noir classic.
